Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 June 2026
Unscramble AU does not collect, store, or sell any personal information. We do not require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or address to use this site.
1. Who We Are
Unscramble AU (unscramble.com.au) is an Australian word unscrambling tool for Scrabble players and primary school teachers. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
For privacy enquiries, please contact us at: privacy@unscramble.com.au
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or contact details (unless you voluntarily submit them via the email capture form on the pricing page)
- Your location beyond the general country level inferred by your IP address (by Google's ad systems)
- The letters or words you enter into the unscrambler
- Any payment information
- Any data from Teacher Mode — all custom word lists are stored locally in your browser only
3. Cookies
We use the following types of cookies:
- Functional cookies — set by this site to remember your saved word lists in Teacher Mode (localStorage, not transmitted to our servers).
- Advertising cookies — set by Google AdSense to serve personalised advertisements in Play Mode (not in Teacher Mode, which is ad-free). These cookies may be used to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant ads on other sites.
- Analytics cookies — if we add Google Analytics in future, these will be disclosed and this policy updated.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling advertising cookies will not remove ads — it will make them less relevant to you.
4. Google AdSense & Advertising
Play Mode on Unscramble AU displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Teacher Mode is completely ad-free.
Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- To opt out of personalised advertising: google.com/settings/ads
- You may also opt out via the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page
We comply with Google AdSense programme policies, including requirements around cookies and user consent.
5. Email Capture (Optional)
If you choose to enter your email address in the "Notify Me" form on the Pricing page, we collect that email address for the sole purpose of notifying you when the Premium tier launches. We will not use it for any other marketing purpose, and you can request deletion at any time by emailing privacy@unscramble.com.au.
6. Browser Local Storage
Teacher Mode saves your custom word lists in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for unscramble.com.au.
7. Third-Party Links
Our site may contain links to third-party websites (e.g. Google, Netlify). This privacy policy applies only to Unscramble AU. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of linked sites and encourage you to read their policies.
8. Children's Privacy
Teacher Mode is designed for use by teachers with their students in a classroom setting. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our site, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Australian Privacy Act Compliance
We operate in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the 13 Australian Privacy Principles. As we do not collect personal information in the ordinary course of operating this site, most APPs are not triggered. Where personal information is collected (email addresses via the opt-in form), we handle it in accordance with APPs 3, 5, 6, and 11 — collection only for the stated purpose, with appropriate notification, no secondary use, and secure storage.
If you have a privacy complaint, you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
